Off the Sidelines

I’m sitting here thinking about what to post; there has been so much bad news recently and as much as I hate to admit it, my simply reposting the information isn’t doing anything to alleviate the problems. I know I cannot get out and march anywhere, nor can I organize a protest or vigil. What I can do is to reach out through my writing and make people aware of one simple fact, I and all transgender individuals are human beings. Regardless of how someone may feel about the choices we make in life, we have a right to not only live but to do so with dignity.

I’m not sure how much I can add to the conversation, but I have to try.

  1. The police out here arrested a man in connection with the murder of a trans woman. It was good to see them working to solve that crime, although I hurt a tiny bit on her behalf to hear the victim’s mother refer to her as “son” instead of “daughter.” But the more voices out there, the better. That’s how things change. Keep talking and writing.

  2. As Frank Sinatra once sang
“For what is a man what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
    And did it my way.”
