Bill Maher: Why Now’s Not The Time To Fight For Transgender Bathroom Rights – The Interrobang

I disagree with Mr. Maher on this matter. Now is the time to keep the pressure on the candidates, not just for president but for congress and every other position up for vote in November.

It is the hope of GOP bigots any and all of their anti LGBQ legislation will slip under the radar of main stream media and the general public until there is too little desire to change these draconian laws.

Lets make sure no one forgets.

  1. I agree with you; if not now, when? It’s far too easy to give in and promise to fight later. But once these discriminatory laws are on the books and in practice, it’s much harder to change them. Better to halt implementation now. Sheesh.

  2. Now is the best time to do it. We are being subjected to dehumanizing and discriminatory policies that as far as I’m concerned violate basic human rights. I usually like Bill Maher, but disagree with him on this issue.

As a ‘student of the Shoah’, I invoke Reverend Niemoller.

Who will be next, gay men because Republicans will claim they commit bathroom assaults? Oh, wait, they do – there’s a long string of well-known conservative, Republican, Christian men who have been caught red-handed in the men’s rooms proving that all innocent people need to be aware of them, not us.

I have met three men using the women’s restroom at the local Public Library. I asked why. They each told me they were recently molested and assaulted in men’s rooms and felt safer in the women’s room. I say they are welcomed and ask why authorities failed to secure their safety in the men’s facility.
