High court to decide if children can consent to gender reassignment

(Not my first choice for news or information but this is an important case.)

High court to decide if children can consent to gender reassignment

Puberty blockers for under-18s should not be legal, say those bringing proceedings.

  1. Interesting. I didn’t transition until I was well into adulthood but with everything that is coming to light about all those who wish to “detransition” I honestly say I am torn on this discussion. Personally, I don’t think I would allow my child to alter their natural hormones until they were at least 17-18 years old. Not to say I would stop my child from living in their truth but if they in fact did decide later in life… well I would hate to think that I helped them make a decision they did not yet fully grasp. May I ask what is your stance on the subject?

    1. It depends on the child. If they are under considerable distress, (suicidal, extreme depression, etc.), then I would be open to them beginning at least puberty blockers, then hormones at 15 or 16 at the earliest.
If at some point they decide it isn’t the right path for them, then so be it. It is their journey and they are the only one who can walk it.
