Things Are Looking Better

So far, so good. The local river levels have remained steady over night and throughout the day. The city is looking into the time table for lifting the evac watch. It has been raining here, but it is light and isn’t expected to affect anything seriously, which is welcome news. The extended forecast is for dryer and warmer weather toward the end of the week. I’m not going to say we are out of the woods yet, but things are looking better.

On the personal front, my main issue has been a lack of creativity. Maybe it’s the stress of the past week or the problems with sleeping, but I just haven’t been able to write anything decent. I am going to try and get more rest and I need to look into some stress relief exercises. I love being able to write and I miss not being able to share my work with others. I know this will pass and so I have something to look forward to.

Well, speaking of needing more rest, I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open, so I’ll bring this to a close and wish everyone a good night.

Fuzzy Thoughts

So far things have remained quiet. I am at work but keeping one ear open in case I get “the call” telling me an evacuation has been ordered. I am also keeping an eye on the water levels as reported on my cities website. As stressful as this as been already, they are saying we need to be prepared through at least Wednesday. So at this point is all a waiting game. At least we haven’t needed to pack up, though that could change at a moments notice.

As far as thinking about other issues… I’m simply too tired, too emotionally drained to think clearly. Trying to follow a coherent thought is like chasing a Willow – the – Wisp. Truthfully, there are so many things out of my control at the moment, I guess this is one of those times when it is best to let them go and just not worry about it.

In The Face Of Tragedy

How many days do we find ourselves mired in the drama of our lives? All those little things which seem so important at the moment we lose sight of the world outside? I know I am guilty of this.

So much happens, all the wonderful and horrible things we see, read, and hear. They seem so removed from our own lives, it is as if they happen on another planet. Yet they are not, we are not, as distant as we might like to believe. Even in the moments of our deepest isolation there is a thread which connects us. We are human, someone’s mother, sister, daughter. We are someone’s friend, coworker, boss, employee. We are surrounded by relationships both discreet and overt.

We might not know anyone who has been affected by tragedy directly, but still we share in their grief and loss. We might never know what they have learned through personal experience, yet it is all too easy to brush against the specter of mortality and in that moment understand the briefest instant of what they will live with for the rest of their lives. It is this understanding, that what we catch a fleeting glimpse of, has become their reality, which overwhelms us and takes our natural desire to be empathetic beyond our ability to understand.

We watch the news, we listen to the interviews and we hope and pray we never find ourselves or loved ones in such a situation. Yet we must also acknowledge the possibility exists.

But such an acknowledgement is not to surrender to fear or inaction. We cannot stop living our lives, nor should we wish to do so. Life is too precious to squander on maybes or might have beens. To hide ourselves away is the greater crime for then all we have to offer is wasted.

A Slight Change

Sorry for the unannounced change to the look of my blog, I happened across a theme I liked and decided to give it a whirl. The theme is called “Adelle” and I really liked the added bit of color.

I wish I could afford to do a custom site, but alas, I have to stick with the free themes for now. Not that there is anything wrong with any of them, I think ones like Adelle and Little Big Town are well designed, but some day I want to do something totally original.

So let me know what you think, and I’ll try to keep the same look for longer than a week or two!

Many thanks,

Just Wanted To Share: New Music

NewImage

First off, this isn’t a solicitation, just sharing a nice site I happened across and wanted to share.

If your looking for free music, check out Noisetrade. I have found quite a bit of the music I am currently listening to here. All the music is free but you can make a donation to the artists you like.

I mentioned listening to Kevin Wood, who’s album “Kindred” I found on this site. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be available any more, but there are many other artists I discovered here. Here just a few.

The Oh Hellos who has the song, “Second Child, Restless Child” which I’ve been playing a lot.

Whitney Fenimore This is an EP with four songs but it will give you a taste of her music.

Also The Vespers I have two of their albums and find it to be nice music to play in the background.

I hope your interested, and if so, take a look and hopefully find something new you’ll love.
