Transgender woman’s Christmas Day shooting death called possible hate crime by family and friends – CBS News:

A transgender woman was shot and killed in Chicago’s East Chatham neighborhood on Christmas day, and her family and friends spoke out Monday to CBS Chicago. They said her homicide is a possible hate crime.

(Not surprisingly, Chicago’s finest are dead naming and misgendering her and show no signs of correcting the information or apologizing to her family.)

As deputy director at the Transgender Law Center based in Oakland, California, she has met many community members who have the same experience. “Death, profound loss, the violence that surrounds us, it’s constant. It’s a significant part of my transgender experience.”

Despite an all-time high in trans-visibility, with celebrities such as Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox now mainstream media stars, violence against the community is getting worse, community advocates say.

2 women verbally abused, sexually assaulted transgender woman in bar bathroom, Raleigh police say

Two North Carolina women have been charged with sexual battery and second-degree kidnapping of a transgender woman in the bathroom of a North Carolina bar, Raleigh police said.

The altercation took place Dec. 9 at Milk Bar in downtown Raleigh, according to an offense report and 911 call made the next day. The caller, whose name was not released, reported that two women taunted, groped and exposed themselves to an unnamed victim in the bathroom.

It was not clear whether the call was made by the victim or someone who witnessed the alleged assault. The Associated Press reported that the victim was a 29-year-old transgender woman.
