I’m not just telling my child to be herself – I’m actually showing her what that looks like. Sometimes people don’t agree with you. Sometimes they’ll even fight against you. Sometimes you’ll feel unsafe
Recently the author of a Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria (ROGD) study lied to a credulous Canadian reporter who printed misleading medical and psychological information that can encourage parents to withhold evidence-based care from their children. The following is an excerpt from Canada’s The Globe and Mailnewspaper:
Today, FRC, with the help of extreme right-wing crap sheet Breitbart, is taking a different path. The group is calling out legitimate science:
As a traditionally underserved population that faces numerous health disparities, youth who identify as transgender and gender diverse (TGD) and their families are increasingly presenting to pediatric providers for education, care, and referrals. The need for more formal training, standardized treatment, and research on safety and medical outcomes often leaves providers feeling ill equipped to support and care for patients that identify as TGD and families. In this policy statement, we review relevant concepts and challenges and provide suggestions for pediatric providers that are focused on promoting the health and positive development of youth that identify as TGD while eliminating discrimination and stigma.
Two Ohio state legislators want teachers to inform parents at the first sign that their child may be transgender.
Reps. Tom Brinkman and Paul Zeltwanger, both Republicans, introduced House Bill 658, which would force teachers to immediately notify parents if they see any signs of gender dysphoria. “If a government agent or entity has knowledge that a child under its care or supervision has exhibited symptoms of gender dysphoria or otherwise demonstrates a desire to be treated in a manner opposite of the child’s biological sex, the government agent or entity … shall immediately notify, in writing, each of the child’s parents and the child’s guardian or custodian. The notice shall describe the total circumstances with reasonable specificity,” the legislation says.
Conservatives in Ohio are pushing a bill that would make it incredibly easy for parents to block their transgender kids from accessing the care they need. It’s perhaps one of the most dangerous anti-trans bills that has been introduced in any state.
The first large-scale, national study of transgender children, including some as young as 3, is poised to expand thanks to a five-year, $1 million grant awarded Thursday by the National Science Foundation to the professor leading the project.
