(As much as I acknowledge this as an important issue for LGB youth, I find I am disappointed to see “Gender Identity” being used interchangeably with “Sexual Orientation.” I see this as an example of the continued confusion one finds when talking about “Trans” issues.)
Illinois House passes conversion therapy ban, moves to Senate:
“Springfield, IL — A bipartisan Illinois House majority on Tuesday approved a measure to protects minors from anti-gay ‘conversion therapy.’ “
(Via. Chicago Pride)
Doesn’t it say both things? Gender identity and sexual orientation? I imagine they put it that way because trans people have also been the victims of conversion therapy. Have a look at this: http://www.transadvocate.com/reparative-therapy-for-trans-youth-kenneth-zucker-is-different-from-george-rekers-how_n_3329.htm
Yes, both are victims of this, I’m speaking to the way they are used. Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation are two different things, unfortunately because they are both found under the LGBT banner, people seem to think they are the same. More to the point, they are both seen as a choice, when neither is.
Choices are an important liberty. Reality is not a choice, it is what it is.
